昨天刚编译了2.6.17rc1-no1内核，gnome2.14 + metacity 2.15.0.6，xorg 7.1，速度非常快。几乎是瞬间打开

the new kernel has enhance much of the performance, and I use gcc 4.2 to complile all the code in system for optimazation, like gnome, metacity ,xorg. so everything is fast.

大家不要不信，我看人家的mailing list上面都是说2.6.17有很大的性能提高的
楼主用gnome2.14啊，幸福啊……该死的debian，现在还是2.12.3……

最好有测试数据说明快多少，内核性能提高是很笼统的说法，也不等于说运行GNOME就一定会提高。

ubuntu will not include the newest kernel, the 2.6.15.21 is so slow, I hate it.

不知楼主之前用的系统的情况（kernel/gnome/gcc）?

另外当gcc 4.0 出来以后，也到处可见类似的帖子，其实际效果我想大家应该心知了！

这倒也不见得现有的软件还是有潜力可挖
只不过一直觉得gnome 不快主要问题出在pango上
跟内核也有关？
