2.6的mm patch什么意思？何用？

今天看到2.6的mm 1发布了。不知道什么意思？有何用。谁能解释一下，多谢！
还有，http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/ 下面那么多目录，都是干什么的？那些比较重要？

mm patch is similar as ac patch. come from sb. with extra hack. which might be useful but not stable. and now since mm patch maintainer work tightly with vanilla kernel, so many things in mm are supposed to move to vanilla kernel soon.
