XFress86在安装VMware中所扮演的角色？

我在VMware中安装VMware tools ，到最后一步如下：
the installation of vmware tools 4.5.2 build-8848 for linux completed successfully,you
can decide to remove this sofrware from your system at any time by invoking the
following command:"/usr/bin/vmware-uninstall-tools.pl".

Before running VMware Tools for the first time,you need to configure it by
invoking the following command:"/usr/bin/vmware-config-tools.pl".Do you want
this programe to invoke the command for you now?[yes]y

This configuration program is to be executed out of an XFree86 session.Please
shut down all instances of XFress86.

Execution aborted.

说是要关掉xfress86的instance。我是在redhat的图形方式下用了新建终端的方式进入安装的，不知这个问题如何解决？
是不是还有文本方式？怎么进入呢？
