i am a newcomer to Gnome Ubuntu.
i use the Gnome Ubuntu chinese live CD,could you tell me how to open and close the IME zhineng tongyong shurufa(SCIM), in a openoffice file in Gnome?

u can introduce in chinese, i can read chinese but dont know how to input Chinese.
not familar with gnome ubuntu either, but you shall be able to switch scim on and off by ctrl+space, and if the livecd does not have scim installed, you can still input chinese by online website like dict.cn, inputking.com etc.
If you follow the unofficial guide, you will only be able to input Chinese in an English environment (perhaps also German, French etc, didn't test that). Only recently did I discover this tutorial, which finally enabled me to use Chinese input in a Chinese environment.
