问个usb转串口的问题

我的本本没有串口，就打算用usb－serial的线，照网上说的方法，插上后的结果不对阿
  我在xp里用虚拟机作的fc8，串口插上后 用dmesg看到的是

usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2
usb 2-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3
usb 2-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
hub 2-2:1.0: USB hub found
hub 2-2:1.0: config failed, can't read hub descriptor (err -22)

而不是象网上说的什么，认出了usb－serial的设备，而且线所带的光盘上也的for linux驱动 ，编译也是一大堆的错误，郁闷阿
已经搞了好久了，谁来帮帮忙阿
