Amount of partitions on ONE disk?

This is posted on [OpenSuse-KDE4-Live]. Didn't find Chinese IM on board.

[OpenSuse-KDE4-Live] can not manage /dev/sda16 and /dev/sda17 on my HDD while previous dists(such as  EVL0.6, ML2.0, RF4.0) can do.

How could I access my patitions such as /dev/sda16 or /dev/sda17?

I had tried:

mknod sda16 b 8 16
mknod sda16_9_1 b 9 1
mknod hda16 b 3 16

None of above works.

How can I still manage my partitions still in IDE-Style?

Can ML2.5 support hdX16 on a real IDE hard disk?

Why do newer Linux-distros manage disk in SCSI-Style?

It is awful for me to reduce the amount of partitions.

Is there one way to extend the amount of SCSI support?

Or is there one way to drive the IDE disk by old IDE-Style?
