You need modify /etc/modprobe.conf, initilize your mouse, keyboard, vfat, codepage, etc. Otherwise, you must reset your computer
Some difference betweem the kernel 2.4.20 and 2.5.69.
1. Module name change, so RH9 can't initialize the module.
For example: usb-uhci (2.4.20), conterpart in 2.5.69, uhci-hcd, also usb-ohci(2.4.29), ohci-hcd(2.5.69). But, for USB2.0 driver, they are same, ehci-hcd. And the structure of usb, seems well ordered in 2.5.69.
So, you need change the alias name of module(in /etc/modprobe.conf) according to your system.
2. rpm have lock-mode bugs with RH9(2.4.20.8/9), so 'root' can't access to the package-db(berkley DB), and even basic install, query and upgrade can't be done by 'root', any way, general user can use rpm query s/w package.
In order to solve this problem, you may download the most recent rpm package from ftp://ftp.rpm.org/pub/rpm/test-4.2/. Upgrade the rpm software.
3. To Be Continued....
