Question About X-windows

I am going to develop a application about X-windows, which can
access Unix or Linux 's GUI from remote windows desktop.

I think It is all known that --- RDESKTOP  application
this is also a application about remote access. but  It is a application which access Windows NT from remote *nix.   I have used it in RedHat Linux , Magic Linux ever.  

I know there are some applications already, Maybe VNC is much better.  My idea is to develop the remote drawing GUI part using java ,and X-protocol part which now i think i can use VNC 's source.
But I still have some problems , Any one have some idea please tell me , thx.

I am in the oversea, the application is also my project with my classmates.
