现在做一个POS系统，打算在服务器上安装win2000，客户端用嵌入式linux，数据库用sybase!
因为数据库的服务器端已经有现成的，客户端基于WIN/DOS也有了，现在客户端用LINUX，数据库的客户
端写过，可不可以与服务器上的win2000交流呢？
可能问的不是很清楚，谢谢呢
最好给个简单的方案！

for linux, i think it is possible to use ODBC or JDBC to talk with sybase. i already forget how to do this.

说服了老板服务器端也用LINUX，,也就是说所有的程序都要写过呢，打算服务器用redhat 9.0
客户端用方舟！
linux下有什么较好的图形开发工具啊？
数据库推荐一下用什么mysql\PostgreSQL！
我们开发一个POS系统（超市那种），客户端用国产的方舟CPU（方舟提供基于方舟结构体系的linux操作系统），服务器端可能性能上要求高点，用X86性能高的CPU！
1、mysql\PostgreSQL源码用方舟的编译器编译过后可以用，只做客户端可以不？
不做服务器怎么安装？
2、在X86服务器上安装基于x86结构体系的mysqlL\PostgreSQL版本，只做服务器不做客户端可以吗？

不知道问题说清楚了没有，谢谢指点！

（也就是mysql\PostgreSQL的服务器端和客户端分别装在不同体系的linux上可行不（mysql\PostgreSQL要用不同的体系编译环境编译两个版本，两个版本一个做服务器一个做客户端））

i rarely develop the GUI code under linux. use kylix several times. i pay more time on kernel. i am not familar with the cpu u said. especially the performance. i think u had better use a thin windows manager. for the code, i suggest u use python (if performance allow) since u can use vxwindows and then later u have code support both windows and linux.

for the server, if u are familiar with linux, u can use trustix or other linux version instead of rh9. or u can use rh as 3. i do not think rh9 has good performance. i think for this problem. u can ask people here who build and maintain this site, they have more experience than me in this field. i do not touch user space programming for almost 3 years.

项目我们还在讨论中，能不能立响现在还是问题，收银POS系统是个较大的项目，在没有什么资源的情况下，一切重写在linux下实现，老板想两个人，在明年四月份拿出来，简直是可笑

then i think u had better base on existing solution. boss is always crazy. they think programmer is cheap and programing is easy.
