I compiled a new 2.6.6 kernel and found a interesting but annoying thing about harddisk's motor.
I powered the machine,
everything goes smoothly;
When I reboot, the system shutdown all services one by one, as we expected.
At last, I heard the harddisk's motor stopped.
Then BIOS take the control and self-checking begins....
harddisk's motor aroused again. ( you can hear the motor's up)
Grub dialogue appears.
I know there's nothing bad to the system.
But for kernels before, the harddisk's motor will keep operating when reboot command ordered until you send the shutdown command.
I'm afraid if there's some harm to the motor if reboot frenquently. |
