install gentoo 一些不明白的地方

gentoo 手册有一段:

舉例來說，要自動載入 3c59x.o 模組，編輯 kernel-2.4 或是 kernel-2.6：
Code Listing 22: 編輯 /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.4
（2.4核心的範例）# nano -w /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.4
Code Listing 23: /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.4 或是 kernel-2.6

"3c59x" 到底是什么?
我只是照抄, 但抄的莫名其妙.

Are you saying that it is an 3com ethernet driver?
If such driver is not needed,
<modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6> should not add in any thing?
If no modification done to <modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6> it will be empty inside, any problem?
Please advise.

没用的模块载入了干什么呢

modules.autoload.d 下面的文件为空内容没什么关系，2.4 以上内核都可以根据 call 的 function 自动加载模块。

除了网卡模块以外基本都不需要 autoload，对于需要一开机便要加载的模块我一直建议干脆编译进内核，省得麻烦。
