第一次用LINUX,什么也不会,每天问一个问题----第三天

RH8.0按照以下地址的步骤安装nVIDIA TNT2显卡驱动后无法进入X WINDOWS,用备份的XF86Config恢复配置文件,都不行.

按说恢复了XF86Config文件后就应该可以了呀。
无法进入X有没有错误提示？

系统在几次尝试登录X（默认直接进入X windows)不成功后就出来一个图形窗口如下:窗口1.1
I cannot start X server (your graphical interface).It is likely thatit is not set up correctly.Would you like to view the X server output to diagnose the problem?
有两个选项：  YES             NO
如果选NO，就出来这样的窗口:窗口1.2
Would you like me to try to run the X configuration program?
又有YES    和NO   选NO后：窗口1.3
I will disable this X server for now. restart GDM 。 When it is configured correctly .         有个“OK”按钮
点击后就回到字符界面，没人任何人登录的状态。
如果在窗口1.1选择YES，则会出来一在堆英文，开头两三行是版本介绍，接下来是：If the server is older than 6~12 months ,or if your card is newer than the above date ,look for a newer version before rporting problem (See http://www.XFee86.org)

Fatal server error:
Caught signal 11. server aborting.
When reporting a problem related to a server crash,please send the full server output,not just the last messages.
This can be found in the log file "/var/log/XFREE86.0.log"
Please report  report problems to xxxxmail(好像都不重要)
内容后有个“EXIT”按钮，点击退出后就会转到窗口1.2
如果在窗口1.2中选择YES，就会转到字符界面要求输入root密码，然后就是：
ddcprobe returned bogus values

Name: None
HorilSync: None
VertSync:None
两三次这样后就到这样的窗口：
I will now try to restart the X server again
             “ OK”一个按钮

运行redhat-config-xfree86后就会出现：

一行乱码＃％％￥……％—……％—·￥·（有点像拼音的样子）

每运行一次redhat-config-xfree86就重复上面的画面一次。

怎么做啊，第一次用LINUX，不懂得操作，能不能把步骤写出来。系统是刚装好的RH8.0，ext3格式。才装了G五笔。
用备份的XF86Config恢复是不是这样：
cp /etc/X11/XF86Config.bak /etc/X11/XF86Config
是不是把文件名改一下就可以了。
原来的配置load "glx"那行没有被注释。
我用vi修改XF86Config的load "glx"后（想注释掉一下看）按ESC后，输入：WQ回车不能保存也不能退出的。只能按Ctrl+Z或Ctrl+C退出。
帮帮忙啊！！！！！！！！！！！！
