一个小问题gentoo

我是新手用gentoo,安装时看了公社里的安装的帖子。但是有个疑问：
gentoo安装时候有3个分区：boot, swap,root。是boot必须在1024内还是root必须在1024内？
我现在有一块60G的harddisk.最开始分了20G 20G 15G 5G，第一个20G是主分区，后面的全在扩展分区。第1，2个分区上有不能删除的重要数据。现在我想装gentoo。我是不是该先用PQ在C盘上划出一块靠前的分区用于boot？
如果是这样的话，不会影响原来C盘上应用程序的盘符吗？

用grub做loader的话，160G的硬盘也没问题。/boot不一定要独立出来，我都是随着"/"走的，图省事，而且硬盘分区也不至于弄得太零碎
