i can not input chinese in my linux box, and i do not want to install a chinese input on my desktop. maybe i will install one later anyway. thx

Same as me. That's why I installed different linux distributions on my pc. Abroad distributions, such as RH, MDK, Debian, ect, I use English interface; and I only use Magic Linux for Chinese input. But right now I am in school, so I have to use Win 2K.

we are different hehe, although i am in school as well. i use linux all the time.
i have linux on 7 pc, 1 laptop, 1 ultrasparc 80, 1 ultrasparc 20, 2 iop310 and 2 iop321.

I don't think they will allow that. Besides, the PC in the lab are clients, they load everything from the main frame.
