请问如果编译了内核之后，系统的速度最大有多少提升？

我的RH9始终感觉比WIN慢很多
不知道通过编译内核之后能不能解决这个问题？

it depends on what kind of machine u use? what is u current configuration, and what is u definition on "slow".

it still depends on what u want to do. may be 0, may be 100% or higher or -10%.
a low latency patch can improve u desktop responsiveness, but low u web server throughput. so u answer a too big question.

for u rh9, how many mem u have? how many service u start? use the meminfo, top, ... so many commands to find u bottleneck.

我的机器配置不高
M-P3 800
128M-4M共享显存
20G 4400转硬盘
可能是硬盘速度太慢了
用HDPARM优化了也只能到20M每秒

u 4400rpm? i think it is 4500rpm. or 5400rpm. for this kind of ide disk, 20mb/s is normal. u mem is small, try to use icewm instead of kde. and recompile kernel with march=pentium3.

我以前是尽量编译成模块，现在是尽量编译进内核，但是却没发现系统快多少，比如网卡、ext3等

yes, once the module is loaded into kernel, there is no speed difference. so if a module u use it everyday, then compile into kernel, if no, then leave it as module.
