a question about shutdown

i install rh9.0 recently, i want to shutdown in terminal,but it told me there is no such command.i know that "shutdown" is in /sbin.
and i once changed my .bash_profile,and added /sbin .but now i forget how to add.
who can help me ?

are you the root?
only root can perform a shutdown command.

eg.
shutdown -h now

"set PATH=/sbin:$PATH" to add /sbin in .bash_profile
everyone can perform a poweroff to shutdown in terminal in RH9
