When I config kernel-2.6.4,I saw this:

Use multi-mode by default (IDEDISK_MULTI_MODE)

If you get this error, try to say Y here:

hda: set_multmode: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hda: set_multmode: error=0x04 { DriveStatusError }

If in doubt, say N.

And ,I can not input chinese into Mozilla? only Mozilla,ctrl+space ,nothing happend....

其实我们公司的服务器也有同样的问题，因为机器比较旧（slot 1 接口的 Celeron CPU － 知道有多老了吧），不能用“内核来开启 DMA 以及 multcount(or multmode)”，但不管怎么样为了性能你最好在启动之后试试能否用 hdparm 打开 DMA 以及 multcount。

其实已经有对应的服务了：Redhat/Fedora 下的配置在 /etc/sysconfig/harddisk 下，Gentoo 的配置文件在 /etc/conf.d/hdparm 下。
详情请参考 man hdparm。
