重新编译内核后系统不能启动(所有问题已解决)

我装的是RH9 2.4.20-8内核的，下了一个2.4.22的源码包，配置好后编译，然后改好了LILO就重启，选新的内核启动到把两块硬盘和光驱认出后就出现了I/O ERROR，说什么无法读取分区表信息，然后出了一大堆错误提示后就死掉了，是不是我在配置block device和ATA/IDE设备时有问题啊，大家帮帮忙吧，我是第一次升级内核。

我遇到怪事了,我又重新编译了几遍内核,按照标准步骤操作还是不能启动,显示
booting(还是loading记不清了)linux(2.4.22).后就当掉了
但是我把/boot下生成的vmlinuz-2.4.22和initrd-2.4.22.img拷贝到一个windows分区下,然后在DOS下用loadlin居然成功启动了系统,虽然启动过程中出现了不少的红色Failed.

现在可以引导了，是不是要重新运行lilo啊，反正我是运行了一遍lilo后就可以引导了，但还有如下三个问题
1.mouse不能用，控制台和X下都不行，已经用mouseconfig配置为正确的类型还是不行
2.启动时说什么tcptable有什么问题，显得太快，还没看清就滚过了
3.不能关机，poweroff后，最后显示power down.就不动了，得手动关

我执行过make modules_install,另外也设置了PM，是不是还要打开Advanced PM BIOS support,还有那个ACPI怎么办？我也重新设置了netfilter，重新编译后还是有问题，鼠标问题已解决。

再来,我将APM下各项编译进内核后可以正常关机了,但按下poweroff后除正常关闭一些服务外,还有两行说找到声卡和PCI的什么模块,怎么会在关机的时候找到这些东西,我make modules和make modules_install时,有好多Nothing to be done,这正常吗?
USB鼠标还是不能用,但PS/2口的可以,能不能把Networking Options那一段贴出来啊,我照着改,免得每次启动时都说iptable有问题.

执行 make install 试试，我一般在make modules_install 后就用它。
之后就重启了。

你的设置太少了。推荐把没用的选为“M”，以防万一。

经过4,5次返工后，USB鼠标问题终于解决了，还有我用setup把iptable服务关了之后就没有错误了
最后一个问题是启动的时候说modprocXXXXXXCan't find XXXXXXXmajorXXXXXX
(显太快，看不清)
PS:make install有什么作用，能解释一下吗？

好像包含了 make;make modules;make modules_install
还有就是自动安装脚本，运行一遍他就不用自己改grub.conf了。

连char这个目录都没有，我到2.4.20-8下面去看也没有
Real Time Clock Support的确是选上了的，现在我可以贴出错误信息，如下：

要解决这个问题是不是要将内核配置中的RTC和ramdisk都选上啊?
我还发现了一个新问题,用新的2.4.22内核时发现速度有点慢,用hdparm一看,原来DMA没开,用命令后说系统不支持,查了以前的贴子也没解决,唉,太累了.
