Besides hardware, I think the most important reason keeps people away from embed linux system is lack of application. Unlike daily use or rutine programming, without a goal for application development or project investment, embed RT linux is no more powerful than people think it should be. How long do you think a hacker or a programmer can afford the money and energy, and keep long term interests on something is not an actually case, but just for fun? What are you going to use the embed RT Linux to do with your life? What can you get from it or what can you give away to others?

Exactly, just like I said, you have a long term goal and commercial support. But what about individual hackers?
